Just because you travel often does not mean you have to be out of touch with what is happening at work or at home. Honeywell Total Connect Remote Services is an award winning product that can bring you peace of mind when you need it most.

Click the video to watch Honeywell’s short description of this powerful service. Here are some highlights from the presentation:

From your mobile device, Total Connect allows you to operate your security system, thermostats, lights, locks and other items as well. But with Honeywell’s tracking services, you are able to use the power of GPS technology to track anything you want.

It works by using GPS satellites in space to communicate with signals communicated from any place on earth. The satellites then send the new information back to the device on earth.

Honeywell harnesses this powerful technology by using it to allow you to track your assets – from vehicles to motorcycles – you can keep up with your assets in real time.

Here are some of the categories you are able to track with this service: location, speed, and you can even set up geo-fencing. Geo-fencing allows you to be notified when your asset enters or leaves an area whose parameters you set up in advance.

Honeywell’s tracking services also allows you to see historical reports that show where your asset has been in the past. You can track back up to 90 days in the past.

You can use either the asset tracker (which monitors assets like trailers or classic cars by way of a small device you place in the asset) or the vehicle tracker (which monitors cars, trucks or service vans). You will even be able to track the speed at which your vehicle is traveling; a notification will be sent to you. It is also possible to analyze the stops and starts the vehicle has made – great for keeping up with your fleet of business vehicles!

American Canyon Fire offers some critical safety information in their video: Fire Safety, Smoke Detectors.  You can click the video below to watch the short presentation. We have pulled some of their main points for you.

fire alarm del mar video smoke detector placement

1.  While there are many tools you can use to prevent home fires, the smoke detector is the most important.

2. Since the battery powered smoke detector was created, deaths due to home fires have been decreased by half.

3.  Everyone who lives in a home with a smoke detector needs to be familiar with the sound the detector makes when it is activated.

4.  There are still homes that do not have smoke detectors in them, and these homes account for about half of all deaths due to fire in the home.

5.  In one-fourth of the reported fires that occurred in homes that had smoke detectors, those detectors were not in working condition. Often, smoke detectors do not work due to batteries that are either dead, missing or are not connected to the smoke detector.

6.  There are now more homes with smoke detectors that do not work than there are homes that contain no smoke detectors.

7.  American Canyon Fire recommends testing your smoke detector every month by pushing the test button, and every six months you should change the batteries.  Keep in mind also, when you hear chirping from your smoke detector, it is a sign that the batteries are running low and should be replaced.

8.  American Canyon Fire also recommends clearing out cobwebs or debris from your smoke detector every six months, when you change the batteries. Spiders can cause false alarms from your smoke detectors.  Using a can of canned air to spray your detector is a great way to clean it out.

9.  Be sure you have a smoke detector on every floor of your home, even in the basement.

Peter Brown, project manager for Turner Construction’s Sibley Hospital construction project, was frustrated because for six to eight months, they were dealing with thefts in the building. The thefts ranged from pieces of copper wires to larger thefts totaling in the range from $5,000 to $7,000.

Though the subcontractors wanted Peter to provide a full security detail on the site to reduce the thefts, Peter did not have the money to fund such an expense. Therefore, Peter decided to research other ways to increase security at the site without going over their allocated budget.

The agreed upon solution was to install motion detectors with video verification. The video verification would be a way to avoid false alarms, which are a nuisance to anyone who has to manage them. The system works by being triggered when a motion alarm detects motion in the monitored area. A dispatcher confirms that the activity is caused by a human being, and then once this is confirmed, the necessary information (the dispatchers describe the scene) is sent to the authorities.

The system installed was fully wireless – a plus in a construction site where things change daily. A wireless system easily adapted to these changing conditions.

Once installed, the system began picking up instances of intruders entering the building.

As a result of the video monitoring system, the police were able to make an arrest in the case. In addition, the incidents of intrusion and theft stopped completely at the site. Peter Brown said that he made sure word got out!

Peter Brown was able to add on cameras and other services as needed throughout the construction project. Currently they are using eight cameras provided by Urban Alarm in Washington DC to monitor the site.
