ABC15 news in Arizona has some timely tips for how to burglar-proof your house this summer. These budget friendly tips may make the difference between being burglarized and staying safe.

Criminal generally want to get in and out of your house fast. So the harder you make it for them, the more likely they will give up and move on.

Click the video below to watch the whole presentation (it is a little more than 2 minutes long). We have summarized the main points for you here:

The garage is a good place to start. The garage door cord that hangs in your garage can be access from outside the garage. All the intruder has to do is fish a coat hanger through and tug on the cord. This releases the door so he can enter. The solution is easy: just cut the cord.

Now let’s head to the front door. Your door-jam probably has small screws which do not provide much security. Your lock is only as effective as your door frame is sturdy. The solution? Remove the small screws and instead use 3 to 3 ½ inch screws. Use these screws to secure the door-jam all the way to and into the 2x4 that the frame is attached to. That will make it very difficult for a burglar to access. And as we mentioned above, the harder it is for him to enter, the more likely he will leave before gaining access to your home.

Finally, if you live in a home development which has locked mailboxes, you can have the lock changed or rekeyed. If you do not change the locks, the previous owners may still be able to unlock your mailbox. This exposes you not only to having your mail stolen, but they could steal your identity as well.

Designing a security plan for your business is the best way to protect yourself from fire, vandalism, and theft. Your employees and customers alike depend on you to create a safe environment to work (and to live if you own an apartment, condominium).

While the creation of a business security plan may seem daunting at first, it can be broken down into a few manageable areas:

commercial security San Diego Smoke AlarmFire Protection: Fire protection involves having a monitored fire detection system in place. Smoke detectors, heat detectors, sprinkler systems and manual pull stations are just a few components of a robust fire security system. For larger properties, installing an addressable fire system is preferred, as it allows the exact location of the fire to be determined quickly. It is also important to provide an employee training program to ensure your employees know what to do in the event of an emergency.

Outdoor Perimeter Protection: While much attention is focused on the security of the inside of businesses, the outside is important as well. Your outdoor perimeter protection is the first line of defense, and the stronger this system is, the less likely it is that a criminal will make his way to the interior of your building. Creating an outdoor perimeter security system includes installing motion detectors, security lighting, fences (with vibration sensors if necessary), outdoor security cameras, and access control.

Indoor Security: Depending on your business, indoor security can take many forms. Some of the most common components of quality indoor security systems include a monitored alarm system that will alert both you and your monitoring company if someone attempts to enter your building (windows and doors can be equipped with sensors that detect intrusion attempts), video surveillance cameras, access control in sensitive areas of your building, and motion detectors.

Because so many businesses are damaged or destroyed by fire, installing a business fire alarm system is one of the best investments you can make. A monitored fire alarm system can let you and your monitoring company know as soon as a fire emergency threatens in your business. And now, with smart technology, you can be notified on your phone, tablet or computer when an alert occurs.

But purchasing and installing a fire alarm system is just the beginning. Your system, once installed, must be periodically examined and tested in order to ensure it will work as expected and perform in the event of a fire situation. If you purchase a system and ignore it from them on, you will not have the protection that you think you have because even high quality systems need to be tested and maintained.

For example, something as simple as batteries in a smoke detector can be the cause of a fire disaster if they are not replaced regularly.

Fluctuations in voltage as well as temperature extremes and humid conditions can cause a system to malfunction.

Only a trained professional can give your system the inspection that it needs in order to ensure your continued protection. Keep in mind, if an emergency does occur, your insurance company may want to see proof of regular maintenance and inspections. This is another reason to get your system inspected regularly.

Having your fire alarm system regularly checked is a budgetary issue. Hiring a professional to oversee your system does cost money, and it may be money that is not easy to spend. After all, no one really expects to be the unfortunate victim of a fire emergency. But neglecting this important aspect may cost you far more than the price of a professional inspection.

At Best Security Products, we can install your system and help you maintain it. Give us a call at 1-800–988–2378 or send us an email at sales@bestsecurityproducts.com
